Reminiscing About:
Christmas!  Tuesday I linked up with Andrea (check out my post HERE) to share my favorite holiday (Chirstmas, of course!).  I had so much fun writing and reminiscing about my childhood memories and looking back at Christmases with my kiddos!  I can’t believe how little they once were!

Loving:
This soap and candle from Bath & Body Works.  They both smell so good!

Been up to:
Soccer, soccer and more soccer!  Fall fun at Ellms Farm.  A weekend away in the Finger Lakes with the hubs, wine tasting and gambling (we stayed at Del Lago Resort and Casino and I highly recommend it)!

Dreading:
I’ve got my “lady” appointments coming up.  Bring on the pap and mamo!  Although they definitely aren’t the most fun things to do, they are so important!

Working on:
Vacation plans for next year.  Thinking about a cruise….

Excited about:
Halloween!  I can’t wait to go trick or treating with the kiddos!

Watching/Reading
Watching:  The Walking Dead!  So glad it’s back on!  We’re also watching Vice Principals.  HILARIOUS!

Reading:
I’ve read some good ones lately!
The Breakdown, Behind Closed Doors, The Gravity of Us, When You Disappeared, The Woman in Cabin 10.  Next up is All the Missing Girls.  Do you have any recommendations for me?  I’m always looking for great new books to read!

Listening To:
80’s and 90’s tunes.  Nothing new is really appealing to me right now.

Wearing:
Boots and leggings!  Although only a handful of times.  It has been unseasonably warm for about 2 months now and I AM OVER IT!!  Bring on the cooler temps please!

Doing this weekend:
Soccer tournament, pumpkin carving, and Trunk or Treat!

Looking forward to next month:
Thanksgiving, a family photo shoot, putting up the Christmas tree!

What else is new:
We’re getting a pool next year!!!!

Show and Tell- Favorite Holiday!

    Favorite Holiday

I am so excited to be linking up with Andrea today for Show and Tell Tuesday!

I love all the holidays and making them special for my kids.  But my favorite holiday would have to be Christmas (with Halloween as a close second)!  Growing up, Christmas was magical.  We weren’t rich (in fact, we didn’t have much money at all), but you don’t need money to make things magical for a child.

Back in those days, we almost always had a white Christmas.  There is just something special and magical about snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.   Even now as an adult, it doesn’t seem like Christmas to me if we don’t have snow.

We always had lots of Christmas lights, inside and out.  My mom would line the inside of our windows with colored mini lights (did anyone else do that?) and outside we decorated the trees with those giant “vintage” bulb lights.  Our indoor tree was decorated with all sorts of handmade ornaments… some beautiful beaded ones made by a family friend, the garland-wrapped tuna can picture frame I made in kindergarten (which my mom still puts on her tree to this day),  salt dough ornaments, paper chains, and usually way too much tinsel.  It was beautiful.

We had tree decorating parties at my Grandma’s house.  We would all get together to decorate her tree and enjoy her homemade cookies, fudge, and eggnog.  My aunt and I would make Christmas crafts while listening to Christmas music and sipping hot cocoa (I think this is why she hates Alvin & The Chipmunks now!).   We’d watch Charlie Brown Christmas, Frosty, Rudolph, The Grinch and ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.  After Christmas Eve dinner, we would go for a ride and look at all the Christmas lights.

Christmas morning was always spent at my Grandmother’s house with my aunts and uncles.  The morning would start with a big bacon and egg breakfast and end with presents.  There were usually around 10 of us there, so the underneath of the tree was filled with gifts.  We also all each had a stocking filled by Santa.  The anticipation of those presents during breakfast was almost unbearable!

I was lucky as a child to have so much extended family around me.   We spent every Christmas when I was young with my Grandma (and Grandpa when he was alive), aunts and uncles.   I will cherish the memories of those big family Christmases forever.

Now that I have my own children, I try and make Christmas just as special for them.   We are creating new traditions, as well as mixing in some of the old.  As a child, Christmas was the one time I believed that anything was possible.  I want my children to believe that too, and hold onto that for as long as they can.

Fall Bucket List 2017

Truth be told, I wasn’t going to do a Fall bucket list this year.  Soccer dominates our lives on the weekends, and it’s already October.  I really wasn’t sure what I would be able to fit in.  But the more I thought about it, I decided I need to MAKE time for fun fall activities.  I mean, it is my favorite season after all!   And so the Fall Bucket List 2017 was created!

1-  Haunted Hayride:  We didn’t fit this in last year so I’m really hoping we can do one this year!  They are so much fun!
2-  Apple Picking:  Fingers crossed.  Apparently the apples here are ripening quicker than usual thanks to the HEAT WAVE we had in September.  I’m not sure if we’ll be able to get to the orchard before all the good apples are gone but we’ll try!
3-  Make apple crisp:  Oh yeah, this is definite!
4-  Go to a pumpkin patch:  Fingers crossed on this one too!  But I think we can fit it in!
5-  Carve pumpkins:  Put this is the DEFINITELY column!
6-  Do a Halloween craft:  Anyone have a good one??
7-  Halloween movie night:  Yes!  Yes!  Yes!  Complete with Halloween inspired snacks too!
8-  Trip to Salem, MA:  This has been booked for months!  I am sooo excited!  I’ve always wanted to go to Salem and being able to go during October is going to be awesome!
9-  Weekend away with the hubs:  Coming up this weekend!!  We are headed to the Finger Lakes.  More to come in a future blog post!
10-  Day in VT leaf peeping:  Definitely on the “maybe” list.  Not sure if there will be time but I really want to!  The leaves are always gorgeous in VT!
11-  Attend a fall festival:  If I can locate a local one, I think I can make it happen!
12-  Go trick or treating:  Definitely!  My favorite part of Halloween!

What’s on your list???
